Just added album support to Migratr. I was going to toss in a few extra things before releasing a version, but it’s been a little while since my last release, I figured I’d stick with the “incremental” approach.
So, Changelog:
New in Migratr 0.5.0
- Album Support- Migratr now tracks how your photos were organized into “photosets” (Flickr,23), also known as Albums (SmugMug), and automatically adds the photos to their corresponding sets during the export process.
Users going between SmugMug and one of the other services should be aware of a slight difference in how the services organize photos. Flickr and 23HQ enable one photo to be a member of multiple photosets. These services can be considered “Photo-Based”, wheras SmugMug is “Album-Based”. In SmugMug, a single photo cannot be a member of multiple albums. Instead, Migratr will automatically upload the same photo to different albums.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU-
- If you’re migrating TO SmugMug, then you should be aware that from this point forward, if you edit one photo in one album, you’ll have to repeat those photo edits for every copy of the photo in all the different albums. If possible, I’d recommend editing it on your hard drive after importing, but before exporting to SmugMug.
- If you’re migrating FROM SmugMug, then you’re going to have unnecessary file duplicates in your different photosets (assuming you’ve put any photos in more than one album). After Migration, you’ll probably want to go on and delete your duplicates, simply adding one photo to the multiple photosets. This helps with things like tracking the popularity of the photo, and not having to look on two different pages to see what comments people have left for one picture.
Next up: Uploading from your hard drive (without importing from a service first), and support for “PicasaWeb”:http://picasaweb.google.com from Google. In the meantime, I highly recommend you check out “jUploadr”:http://www.juploadr.org and “pictureSync”:http://picturesync.net/ for the mac. Both are excellent bulk uploaders, and if you don’t already have all your photos tagged, titled, and organized on one of the supported photoservices, these would be excellent applications to use.
Good luck, and don’t forget to drop by the forums!
