I’m a developer myself and would not want to install the 3.5 framework on my machine just yet.

Since SmugMug requires gallery/subgallery organization, essentially Migratr creates an “Imported” gallery, and then creates a Smugmug subgallery for each flickr set.

I’ve just come across Migratr. Great app so far (downloading my pics from Flickr as I write). I want to export the photos up to SmugMug. My question is…

Does Migratr’s import/export process keep all of the set information from Flickr and use it to create new galleries in SmugMug? Is that the way it works?

Or do I have to recreate each Set as a new gallery (and figure out which photos in my ~1000 pics were in each set)??

1- Migratr only has access to the first 200 photos on your old account, since it’s not a pro account.
2- Only Pro accounts have access to the original high-res images. Migratr will try to grab the originals, but in your case the originals aren’t available, so it’ll grab the highest-resolution version that Flickr makes available.
3- 3500 photos is a lot of data. I really can’t say without knowing the size of your photos and your internet connection, etc, etc. It’s going to download all your photos to your hard drive, then upload them all to the other flickr account. Uploading is going to take a lot longer than downloading. I’d say leave it on overnight.

4- If you want to move all your photos from your old account to your new one, in hi-res, and have them all visible on the new account, then yes. This is entirely out of Migratr’s control.

One workaround would be to only make the new account pro. Then download all the photos off the old account that migratr can see, and move them to the new account. Delete all those photos off of your old FLICKR account, and the next 200 will be available. Repeat process.

I really recommend against this, though: You’re going to be flipping back and forth between accounts in flickr about 18 times (twice for each 200 photos * 17.5 bunches of 200 photos). The possibility to mess up and upload photos back to the old account, then delete them permenantly, is really high. For peace of mind I really recommend just going pro on both. PLUS, by going pro on both you’ll get to keep the highest-res photos.

5) You might want to consider uploading to Zooomr instead of flickr- That way you’ll only need to buy 1 pro account, for the old flickr account. Zooomr is free/unlimited, and very similar to Flickr in terms of functionality, but more focused on the social aspects of online photo sharing. If it turns out you don’t like Zooomr, no money lost, and the files are already sitting on your hard drive waiting to be exported to the new flickr account.

I have an old flickr account which is linked to an old yahoo account. The account has about 3500 photos in it. It is no longer a pro account so I can only see the first 200 photos.

I want to transfer it all to a new flickr account with my new Yahoo email address. I have not set the new Flickr account up yet.

1) Will Migratr transfer all those photos?

2) Will it transfer them in the same high resolution?

3) How long will it take?

4) Do I have to pay for both accounts to be pro accounts to move all the photos?

5) Is there anythings else I should be aware of?

What you CAN do is select which files get uploaded. After you’ve selected the folder where all your photos are stored, the tree on the right side of the screen will populate with filenames, organized by album (or “set” in flickr’s case), with checkboxes next to each. Upload a couple albums at a time. If there’s one photo which is repeatedly causing Migratr to crash for some reason, upload all the other albums- and please email me the offending photo and the photodata.xml in your folder so I can fix the root of the problem:)
